Industry Innovator: Hurst Boiler & Welding Co., Inc.
by Tommy Hurst

Gene Hurst’s visionary start in 1967 gave rise to succeeding generations of innovators at Hurst Boiler. His tradition of foresight and leadership has continued in creating an array of boiler products and technology to provide steam, hot water, and co-generation solutions to meet the needs of commercial and industrial applications around the world. In doing so, the Hurst name and brand has become one of the most respected in the industry.

Today, the Hurst family of products offers a full spectrum of integrated systems from boilers to burners, controls, parts, and accessories. Hurst Boiler is committed to moving its customers and the industry forward in the face of the ever-increasing challenges of rising fuel costs, carbon and emissions standards, safety, and productivity. Hurst is committed to providing value and success for our customers long after the sale and installation.

The Hurst Product Line includes packaged boilers – 6 to 3000 hp, pressures to 450 psi – fire-tube, water-tube, and feedwater equipment for all heating and process applications including schools, dry cleaning, hospitals, universities, military, and all commercial/industrial operations.

Hurst is a custom manufacturer of engineered packaged boilers and integrated boiler systems, renewable fuel fired gasification / combustion / heat recovery systems , biomass boiler systems, CHP co-generation systems, boiler controls, and boiler room accessories. Low NOx modular boilers & burner configurations are available for all models, starting at 9. 5 hp, meeting all state environmental requirements, including SCAQMD.

In total, Hurst Boiler product groups and facilities operate more than 300,000 square feet of certified facilities in North America and around the world, serving a global market.

Our continuing commitment to the safe and efficient use of our planet’s resources has lead to Hurst Boiler being recognized as a leader in high-performance combustion and heat exchange equipment, seamlessly integrated boiler room systems and breakthrough technologies for tomorrow’s boilers and burners.

Burners are engineered to utilize optimum combustion efficiency while lowering nitrogen oxide levels to less than 9 PPM and lowering carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other emissions to the safest, most minimally impactful levels. Continually leading the way to the cleanest and most efficient use of the various fuels we burn remains our highest priority and mission.

Hurst proudly offers major repairs as well as service and preventative maintenance of steel boilers, ASME welding, "R" and "PP" stamps, and refractory and tube repairs. We maintain a large inventory of in-stock boiler parts including pollution control systems and exchangers, controls, forced draft burner parts, feedwater tanks, water softeners, chemical feed systems, castables, refractories and insulations. We offer in-stock replacement parts for all major commercial/industrial boilers. Services include domestic and export sales, parts, service, and an extensive worldwide distributor/dealer network. Critical delivery services are also available.

The future at Hurst Boiler & Welding Company also includes an Environmental and Sustainability Commitment to enhance the quality of life in all areas we serve. With an ever-increasing focus on global warming, conservation, and sustainability, it is more essential than ever that we all do our part to keep our water clear and our sky blue.

Utilizing HURST Biomass Boiler Systems can reduce, or even eliminate energy and disposal costs altogether, through the combustion of renewable fuel sources, also known as biomass. Energy solutions based on biomass and biofuels provide clean and renewable energy for large national and international companies. Green-thinking companies are now using biofuels to mitigate the impact their activities have on the environment by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. This can also generate earnings by saving money on energy costs, and by the sale of carbon credits.

This commitment represents what Hurst does to make our products as good for the environment as they are for the places we live and work. Being green is always part of Hurst blue – and we put a touch of it in every boiler and system we make.

In addition, through our products and technologies, Hurst aspires to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life not only for ourselves, but for our customers and their businesses as well.
